As a kid i didn't really listen to hip hop but i used to watch adult swim every weekend for robot chicken and stuff so when i checked out Donuts for the first time it was kind of a trip because i recognized all the music despite having only just heard of J Dilla.
Adult Swim also plays some pretty awesome metal, I remember before Mastodon was a big deal I would hear a lot of tracks off Leviathan during commercial breaks.
Yeah, I think they've put out some Mastodon before, and they've done a couple of metal tapes. They use Mastodon a lot for random stuff. I know that they used them for that crazy-ass intro to the Aqua Teen movie.
Brendan Small of Home Movies and Metalocalypse fame is a very talented musician. I'd wager metal is his forte, but he probably has some other song writing chops.
Brendan Small writes all of the music for Metalocalypse, and every once in awhile he tours with a band. There's some video of him playing guitar with Slash and Steve Vai.
He's an amazing musician. It's time to pay the price! Yea they put mastodon onto a lot of people, and right now they seem to be doing a similar thing with Thou an awesome sludge metal band from my city.
The people on adult swim wanted to sign Killer Mike to do an album for them with no restrictions, so they introduced him to a bunch of producers and one of them was El-P and they just clicked.
If you're into underground electronic music adult swim put out a free mixtape some years ago called '[unclassified]'. It's mostly UK artists and full of really great tunes.
Thanks, I'll have to get that sometime. Yeah man, it's pretty chill for the most part but there are also some bangers on there, adult swim killing it as usual!
I was quite surprised they did a project with mainly UK artists as they usually work with artists in the U. They did a mixtape with Ghostly International a while back that was really good too.
I think it was called Ghostly Swim or something like that. I don't think anyone remembers him nowadays, but Joe-Boyd Vigil did some great work for the network.
I remember watching a Gorillaz video on Toonami when I was pretty young. Tomorrow Comes Today, maybe? They also use some awesome instrumentals for Gumball bumpers.
Is there a download link to the whole Singles Program ? Or is it just not there because they haven't released the entire mixtape?
There was one a while back by a guy named witchdoctor that I remember banging constantly and I can't seem to find it anymore, but if you can get your hands on it it's definitely worth checking out.
They're based in ATL so I assume they get lots of fresh local artists. They started a Williams Street Music label in , way after the actual cable company was founded.
I think it was different but it worked surprisingly well. I wouldn't mind a Danny x Clams project. Clams production is so lax and mellow and Danny Brown is so eccentric and energetic, I think the contrast would be dope.
Because for his own music he makes abstract electronic which pulls influences from everywhere. When he's working as a hip hop producer, the drums needs to have some sort of rhythm for the rapper to flow over.
It's not off beat, it's just heavily swung with lots of syncopation. Dilla popularized this feel, with his heavily swung hi hats. Yeah, you're dead is a perfect example of this.
He gets people to play jazzy riffs and he treats the recordings like samples when producing the songs. It's a neat workflow that he's out together with ableton.
That doesn't mean it's bad. The word off-beat has negative implications but there's nothing inherently bad about it. Because those drums are much more intersesting than the regular kick, snare, kick, kick, snare.
His drums are amazing in my opinion, one of his best attributes. He didnt "suddenly blow up with Kendrick".
Flylo has been a revered producer for years. Some people really like the off-beat drums. I do myself too. It isn't something the average boom bap lover is gonna be into but if you're into some experimental shit flylo's style is neat.
Didn't clams leave to finish college or something? I was pretty bummed there were no clams beats on the new rocky album.
I really loved his stuff from Rockys first mixtape. Yeah I heard this too, it's crazy to me. If the dude would stay on his music grind for even another four or five years he could make it big!
He clearly has a passion for it, I really don't understand why he would give it up to go back to school.
But I suppose he knows what's best for himself: There have been quite a few musicians who were naturally good at what they did, but wanted to explore other routes in life.
If your good at something, or have a passion in an area, it will always come back to you. Idg why you would even wanna listen to a song THAT many times as soon as it comes out.
Won't it get old? Not trying to criticize but it always seems like on this subs dudes listen to things like crazy when they drop. Whenever an album drops within an hour guys are posting about how they heard it multiple times - I think they normally skim through each track then afterwards listen to it on repeat.
I mean if it's got a melody I really dig or a line I REALLY fuck with I'll throw the song on repeat for a bunch of times, then again I don't mind having music on repeat I'll listen to maybe 3 - 5 songs in the gym over an hour or so.
Except the gym part, I couldn't do that haha. I have a playlist with a couple hundred songs and I even get annoyed of the playlist after going to the gym so often.
My favorite , courtesy of Flylo and Killer Mike. I like the new Kitty one the most. You know what they say: If you love something, let it go get its asshole eaten.
If it comes back to you, wipe it off, and it's yours forever. If it doesn't, then step up your tongue game. Fuck clammy clams is the king of having a beat that at first sounds disjointed and crazy, which then comes together part way through the first verse using some other instrument that is actually in time- look at Norf Norf by Vince staples.
I really love Danny on this too. It never really came together for me. Just seems too disjointed or off beat or something. Can't really put my finger on it.
Maybe it'll grow on me though. I agree, waiting for that new Danny Brown album. It's nearly finished as confirmed by Danny but ain't coming out anytime soon, as said in April anyway.
I really love Danny. XXX is one of my favourite albums but I'm kind of getting bored of the high voice now. Also this reminds me of the Fresh Off The Boat theme song.
At least half off both XXX and Old were in his non-high inflection? Only this, and his Detroit vs Everybody have been high-pitched verses from Danny.
Yeah and I'm getting bored of it now. Most of his features are high voice like the Sour Soul verse and the Pinata verse.
It's been a long time since the Hybrid and Danny has proven his diversity on the albums you named. The high voice has just worn out on me now.
I yearn for his low voice which I haven't heard for ages but the high voice is just him and I get that so it doesn't really matter. I don't mind this track either way.
